Born in Gujarat but bread and buttered in Pune City in the State of Maharashtra. All his school life Abid had never involved in any sports activity until he started his College life, when a group of friends showed keen interest in playing Cricket at the nets for the selection of the College Team. Abid stood no chance even in the selection of 30 probables. His real passion and interest for the game started when he first came to Doha and worked for a Contracting Company where he was a team member playing hard ball under the banner of AKC with Qatar Cricket Association. Abid played many tournaments organized by the QCA leagues and continued to do so until he joined RasGas in 1997. It was that time when Juzer Zaveri (now Q-Chem) and Abid Bohra took the initiative and approached RG Management to seek their approval in forming 2 teams under the banner of RasGas and RG-Operations respectively. Ibrahim Khan who was popularly known as Bobby was part of the RG team who earlier played for Commercial Bank of Qatar. Bobby was also a member of the Qatar National Team. Over the years RasGas grew into a large organization where Abid could see new talent in the form of all rounders from different parts of the sub continent. The interest for hard ball cricket was fading when the Soft Ball cricket was introduced by the Qatar Veteran's Cricket League and since then Al-Khor Community has registered a team of some extremely talented all rounders representing RasGas and Qatargas employees respectively. Now it is retirement time for Abid's cricketing career from major tournaments being played in the State of Qatar. He professionally manages the RG team in this current time which he enjoys doing so in pleasing all his team members and they like to see Abid when they play matches for RasGas or Al-Khor Community. However, he does enjoy playing domestic cricket inside Al-Khor Community where the Indian Community have regional teams playing league matches during the first quarter of each calendar year. It is a platform set to meet and greet all cricket enthusiasts over the weekends in the early hours and have some workouts to keep themselves fit. |
